TAMPA, FL - USL's 2010 Super Y-League (SYL) ODP National Camps begin today with players arriving in town for this evening's opening ceremony, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET at Mainsail Suites in Tampa. This evening, players will meet the SYL ODP Staff Coaches, who will lead them through drills and 21 developmental competitions by the end of camp at noon on Sunday.
The '93-'96 boys SYL ODP Camps are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 10.
One of the SYL ODP Staff Coaches is Eastern FC's Director of Coaching, Danny Simpson.
"I agreed to assist the SYL National Camps for the experience of working with high-level coaches and players," Simpson said. "I expect to learn from both."
Based in Connecticut, Eastern FC is an expansion SYL club for the 2010 season.
"Besides that, it is nice to get to play and train outdoors," Simpson added. "In Connecticut, we have six to 12 inches of snow."
Another SYL ODP Staff Coach, James Hamblin of Mass Premier Soccer (MPS), echoed Simpson's sentiments.
"It is an honor to work with players of this level," Hamblin said.
"The SYL is our primary league," Hamblin added. "Everything we do [at MPS] is geared towards competing at the highest level during the Y-League season. This will be my first experience at the SYL ODP National Camps, but the selection process in league play is a better way to identify players than the open tryout process."
For the players, the live action begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. ET at Ed Radice Sports Complex in northwest Tampa. There, both Simpson and Hamblin will direct separate teams while keeping a close eye on which elite players to recommend for the SYL ODP Select Teams. The Select Teams will be published on USLsoccer.com on Monday, March 8.
"I look for good decision-making skills and a positive attitude in players," Hamblin said. "I like to let the players play and learn through the game while coaching them in decision-making environments."
"I look for correct technique, decision making and speed of play," Simpson said. "I prefer a passing style of play to possess and penetrate and a hard-working, disciplined style of defense."
The Gambian Rush will be Rush soccer's 27th partner. I would like for us to give a warm welcome to Omar Sise, the Technical Director of the Gambian Rush. Omar, believes in the Rush and my recent visit to Gambia tells me this is going to be a special partnership. These guys see the vision and truly get it. The passion and talent are there!
Welcome, Omar, on behalf of the Rush partners, we are very proud to have you part of this great Rush family!
This summer, Rush Soccer will host the third annual Rush Festival. A four day event for all U12 Rush teams. Players and coaches will have the opportunity to work with some of the top coaches in the nation while interacting, playing and learning with and from each other.
Rush Soccer is excited to announce that we now have a partner in Maryland! The Bowie Soccer Club will now be known as the Maryland Rush. The club is located in Bowie, Maryland (20 minutes from Washington D.C., 20 minutes from Baltimore) and has a membership of around 250 competitive level players. Adam Ritchie, a Maryland native, will be the Technical Director for Maryland Rush. Adam has a USSF ‘C’ license along with an Advanced National License from the NSCAA. Adam is thrilled to be part of the Rush family saying, “I am always looking for a way to give the players and the club a better opportunity. Rush seems to have that on a much larger scale. They have a great philosophy and soccer minds across the country. I couldn’t be any more excited!” Bowie Soccer Club has had a long history in Maryland and was a regional power prior to the formation of DC United and some other clubs in the area but still remain strong. Most teams that are currently in the club play between the U12 and U16 age brackets but there are a handful of teams in other age brackets. “Rush Soccer is very excited to increase its presence on the east coast. Adam has worked very hard to bring the Maryland Rush on board and we look forward to a prosperous partnership,” commented Rush Soccer Technical Director Andrew Kummer. The Rush partnership offers a new element to the former Bowie Soccer club. “We are excited about the potential for our travel teams and players. If we need a few guest players we can turn to a partner club and also look for guest playing opportunities for our players,” said Ritchie on how Rush Soccer will help to enhance an already very solid reputation. Rush Soccer President and C.E.O Tim Schulz knows Maryland is a big addition for the Rush. “Our decision to partner with Maryland was not a difficult one. We believe in the current leadership and we think this area is the hot bed of soccer for the area. One of our aims is to help our partner clubs
to become number one in their state. We think this can be done. The Rush support our new partner 100% and we are looking forward to its progress,” said Schulz.
